  • “Inside Outside” was commissioned by the saxophonist, John Sampen. It is a challenging piece with some highly virtuosic passages, but it also provides the performer with some opportunities for free improvisation. It utilizes a number of extended techniques on the saxophone, including sub tones, air sounds, key clicks, slap tongues, and multi-phonics, which are captured by the computer and processed in various ways. The computer also tracks the pitch of the saxophone, both for purpose of following the score and in order to process the sound in ways that change from moment to moment. The electroacoustic component also features some processed stereo recordings of environmental sounds, which are then convolved with various sounds produced on the saxophone, bringing the instrument “Inside Outside.”
  • Forthcoming on a CD by John Sampen.
